Fortress are commonly tasked with safeguarding automated storage and retrieval systems (ASRS) by some of the largest logistics companies in the world. Whilst these machines are increasingly common in modern warehouses, they can still be extremely dangerous for personnel if they are not equipped with the correct access control system.

Installation of these systems can also be difficult and costly due to the large size of the machine, meaning long runs of cabling are required. To combat both of these issues, Fortress have designed an optimised solution that focuses on maximising personnel safety whilst minimising installation costs and improving productivity.

Mode Selection Switch

Mode Selection Switch as referenced in EN 528 and EN 14119.
This type of switch allows for unique coding coding for each dedicated aisle ref EN 528 4.3.5 . When used as part of an EN 528 compliant system, this switch allows for the key to be used to access the gate as well as actuating the internal Mode Selection Switch ref EN 528 4.3.5.

amGardpro Heavy Duty Guard Lock

The door to access the AS/RS ‘safeguarded space’ can only be opened when (a) the key is removed from the switch on the control panel (now in manual mode) and entered into the key switch of the interlock mounted to the door.

Whilst the key is inserted into the key switch (shown in red below), the interlock can unlock and the actuator can be removed from the interlock, opening the access point. The key can then be removed by the operator, who can bring this with them while inside the safeguarded space.

The unit is also equipped with an escape release, meaning personnel can escape the safeguarded space in an emergency.
