Managing access control permissions with FRANK
Ensuring only the right people are carrying out the right tasks is a crucial part of safeguarding machinery. With Fortress RFID Access Network Keys (FRANK), access control via RFID can be integrated into any Fortress proNet device. Using employees’ existing RFID cards, permissions can be assigned to enforce conditions for machine operation or access.
Track and analyse date, time, user, and status on permission requests, and operation of non-safe inputs and outputs on the device.
Access permissions for a given user can be set for a specified time period and be automatically removed outside the defined timeframe.
View a live count of users who have presented their card to an RFID reader and received an access granted signal.
The FRANK architecture can suit applications from a single cell to multiple sites, from cabinet controls to cloud-based automation technologies.
Manage permissions to specific locations, functions, and actions, ensuring only the right people are carrying out the right tasks.
Fortress solutions are compatible with existing RFID site cards, including a variety of 13.56MHz and 125kHz options.

The local controller, which has a permissions database, communicates with a Fortress network-enabled device (interlock or control pod) with RFID reader. This device then communicates “access granted”, “access denied” and additional input/outputs to the PLC.
The master controller provides a single point of permissions management and data collection within a facility. Data of who, when, where, and what from access events is collated, providing events lists and data insights that can support efficiency analysis.
