Robot Depalletiser
Whenever personnel enter the safeguarded space (whole body access), it is crucial that the power to the robot depalletiser has been isolated to avoid accidents and injury.
In this application, a light curtain is combined with muting systems to enforce this process whilst still allowing packages to pass into and out of the connected conveyor system.
In this application, a trapped key system is combined with muting systems to enforce this process whilst still allowing packages to pass into and out of the connected conveyor system.
To prevent unexpected restart, a safety key is implemented in the access control device and acts as a proactive inhibit function, meaning the palletiser cannot be restarted whilst an operator has the safety key on their person.
Muting Control System
A muting system allows approved materials to travel through a light curtain without stopping the hazardous motion and is able to distinguish between specified objects and persons.
In this example muting system, the Fortress Push Button Control device is able to reduce installation costs due to the connection of external I/O, removing the need for expensive I/O boxes and greatly reducing the wiring costs back to the PLC.
This unit is also purchasable as a complete safety solution package from Fortress which not only saves a lot of design, engineering and supply chain time, but also saves money too!

Light Stack With I/O
High-density non-safe I/O can be time consuming to set up and install. Long cable lengths further increase project costs.
Whether I/O is integrated or cabled externally to the I/O module, the flexibility of Fortress solutions makes connecting devices simple.

Light Curtain Access
In normal operation, crossing the light curtain will immediately stop the robot depalletiser to protect any personnel from injury.
To improve upon personnel safety in instances where whole body access is required, the Fortress tGard solution makes sure that the robot is deactivated permanently while personnel are inside the safeguarded space.
The push buttons are used to make the robot safe, then release the key and deactivate the light curtain. The key is then able to be taken from the unit, preventing the robot from restarting until the key is returned and protecting personnel from the dangers of unexpected restart, even when visibility into the safeguarded space is poor. Keys can also be used to initiate teach mode from within the cell if required.
